As a Store Manager you will be responsible for implementing individual store strategies to help achieve the company’s objectives, including customer experience goals, operations / business development goals and store appearance. The Store Manager leads by example and attracts, hires and develops talent. As an experienced leader you will ensure effective and efficient utilization of systems and processes while overall store operations are compliant and standards are met. As part of our entrepreneurial approach, we encourage our teams to promote our stores in community programs and drive excellent tenant and community relationships.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Customer
• Educates store team on how and why to create a positive shopping experience
• Monitors and oversees the customer / employee interaction, provides coaching / feedback
• Empowers staff to “use their best judgment” in order to exceed customers’ expectations
• Promotes quality service among staff through training and by acting as a positive role model
• Creates “seamless customer experience” uses all internal options to fulfill customers’ needs
• Treats all customers as equal, goes above and beyond their expectations
• Personally available to all customers
• Handles product returns in a way that demonstrates the spirit of customer care
• Communicates consumer feedback and in-store trends through proper channels
Leadership and Employee Development
• Holds Store team and self accountable to all standards of performance
• Hires people who pursue passions that relate to our products and philosophy
• Inspires employees so that each person contributes to the productivity of the store
• Ensures strong business acumen across all levels of management
• Identifies, develops and leverages existing talent to support growth
• Maintains training standards to ensure both product and systems expertise
• Upholds optimal staffing levels to ensure business needs are met, promotes retention
• Recognizes and rewards high performing behaviors
• Builds effective relationships across all stores and departments
• Oversees and communicates Division of Responsibilities
• Writes, facilitates performance evaluations and establishes goals for direct reports
• When necessary, discipline employees consistent with the company disciplinary policies
Activism / Outreach
• Creates stores that are centers for the community supports environmental and social issues
• Maintains a regular schedule of events, identifies non-profit recipients and worthy causes
• Works to align with small grassroots groups that focus on direct action
• Educates self and staff on global and local issues, gets actively involved
Business & Financial Planning / Results
• Reviews and develops strategies to achieve financial goals
• Monitors sales and Key Performance Indicators, effectively utilizes reports to analyze store’s
business, completes monthly business plans and recaps
• Operates the store within budgets
• Ensures adherence to all Company policies and procedures
• Leads efforts to reduce in-store shrink activity through Loss Prevention education, awareness and compliance
Management & Operating Results
• Supports company’s initiatives and ensures successful in-store implementation and sustainability
• Communicates progress towards goals & objectives at weekly store visits
• Maintains highest level of visual, store and procedure standards according to Store Audit guidelines
• Models exemplary employee behaviors to drive sales through exceptional customer service
• Prepares, reviews and approves schedule according to budget and business needs
• Responds and reacts to all company communication in a timely manner
• Holds management meetings on a regular basis to inform, solicit feedback and participation
• Accountable in executing physical inventories according to Denali’s guidelines
• Responsible to maintain all building mechanical systems, report malfunctions to appropriate business partners
VM / Marketing
• Maintains high visual presentation standards by being creative, educational, inspiring
• Develops merchandising plan each season to ensure appropriate product presentation / flow
• Utilizes props, signage and images creatively to enhance the shopping experience,
• Maximizes full price sell-through by strategic use of real-estate and inventory
• Collaborates with the marketing department, supports company’s marketing initiatives
• Active and encourages team to participate in social media posts, blog / reviews
Legal Compliance
• Ensures that information is posted regarding compliance and according to all State and Federal employment laws including equal employment opportunities
• Maintains safe working conditions for employees and customers
• Resolves safety concerns quickly
• Ensures Loss Prevention best practices and knows Denali’s proper apprehension and prosecution procedures
Individual Development
• Focuses on an area of responsibility that represents special interest or need for further development
• Creates action plan to achieve optimum performance
• Assesses / measures results quarterly
Miminum Job Qualifications
Five years experience in retail store management
Demonstrated ability to build effective teams and motivate employees
Willingness to set and maintain high standards of performance
Ability to give clear directions and set expectations for staff
Knowledge of effective merchandise presentation standards
Understanding of basic retail concepts (gross margin, markdowns)
Excel and Word proficient
Strong initiative and leadership skills
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Excellent organizational skills
Accuracy and attention to detail
Flexibility, ability to adapt quickly & react positively to business needs / changes in strategies
Strong problem solving skills
Outdoor specialty product use/knowledge is encouraged
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time, necessary to provide sales floor coverage related to customer service and loss prevention
Ability to reach overhead, bend, squat, kneel, and carry product, necessary for customer service, inventory re-stock, and store merchandising
Ability to walk up and down staircase, carrying boxes, product, and other store related items
Ability to perform store maintenance items: sweep, vacuum, empty trash, clean
Ability to safely lift boxes up to 55 lbs
Comfortable climbing ladders
Typical work week is approximately 42.5 hours, available to work a varied schedule (nights, weekends and holidays)
