Position Overview This position is responsible for the conceptualization and development of new products and the redesign of existing products. The Design Engineer will create the documentation necessary to convey design solutions to Management and Production teams through sketches, models, mechanical drawings and written reports. ***Essential Duties & Responsibilities*** ? Responsible for the detailed design of components leading to a manufactured product that will deliver the desired outcomes in features, cost and quality ? Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed ? Primarily responsible for mechanical functionality and safety features for all in-house product designs ? Partner with Design team and Product Line Managers to determine proper function, form and style of product/accessory prior to new boat launch ? Work collaboratively with Operations to design working prototypes and models to demonstrate the feasibility of design ? Create drawings of parts for new product designs ? Calculate and document estimates for new product designs ? Select vendors and secure quotes for components of new products ? Communicate selected vendors, along with cost estimates, to Purchasing and Accounting departments ? Partner with Test Engineers and Fit Technicians to determine performance testing using DFMEA and test plan development ? Serve as Project Manager to keep project on schedule and within approved budget ? Determine component specifications to ensure acceptable product quality; document product specs for QA ? Maintain design records/files ? Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies ? Perform other duties as assigned ***Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:*** ? Bachelor?s degree in Mechanical Engineering required ? 5+ years Engineering experience ? Working knowledge of Solidworks software products is preferred ? Experience with development of composite layups preferred ? Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to take initiative and ensure that work is accomplished in the time frame required ? Relies on work experience and judgment to accomplish goals ? Strong working knowledge of materials, including ability to read material specs and make basic determinations regarding appropriateness for specific product applications ? Continuous improvement mindset is a must ? Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively with individuals throughout all levels of the organization and vendors alike ? Must be independently motivated and able to work without detailed direction ? Ability to focus and perform in a fast-paced environment ? Strong computer skills; Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio)
