Supervision exercised: Shop & Service Manager and 10-12 Field Technicians

Compensation: $65,000 - $70,000

Denver B-cycle operates a public bike sharing program in the City and County of Denver. The Operations Director is responsible for system monitoring and smooth functioning of DBS hardware and software systems including, but not limited to management of inventory and information systems related to fleet maintenance, distribution and customer use.

Position Purpose and Objectives: 

Monitor and manage all customer facing hardware and related software, i.e. stations and bicycles, to provide a positive experience for Denver B-cycle users
Supervise Shop & Service Manager and 10-12 Field Technicians; allocate labor resources as needed to achieve Denver B-cycle operational goals
Own our operations and be the point person between the Executive Director, and other departments regarding operational activities, available resources, projects, and events

Essential Job Functions:

·     System Monitoring and Management

o   Assure that all resources, personnel, and information are in place to facilitate smooth system operation

o   Define performance metrics to allow evaluation of processes used in system monitoring and management

o   Work with partners, i.e. equipment suppliers, to refine and develop system functionality  

·      Personnel Management

o   Define personnel needs required by system size, usage, and time of year

o   Direct oversight of 10-12 staff (with support from the Shop & Service Manager in specific areas)

o   Hire, train, schedule and manage technical staff

o   Set up and/or administer operations policies and processes

o   Monitor technical staff’s work through regular QA/QC and provide feedback and additional training when required

·      Asset Management

o   Responsible for distribution vehicles and trailers including set up,  maintenance, repair, and driver training

o   Responsible for maintaining functionally safe and operational bikes, stations, vehicles, and trailers for use by the general public and DBS staff

·      Administration

o   Establish the operations budget, and re-forecast monthly

o   Create the monthly labor/operations schedule

o   Communication and scheduling with various vendors that support our operations

o   Regular reporting to the Executive Director and director level peers on areas of responsibility

o   Ongoing communication and coordination with Business Affairs Director related to budget and HR issues

o    Ongoing communication and coordination with Shop & Service Manager related to bicycle maintenance and repair

o   Ongoing communication and coordination with Marketing & Sponsorship Director related to messaging, advertising, and special events

·      As Needed

o   Support with design and implementation of sustainability practices

o   Management of DBS facilities as needed and capable

o   Relocate and/or reconfigure B-cycle stations as needed

o   Other duties as assigned   

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

·         Sufficient technical knowledge and aptitude to facilitate the management and maintenance of B-   cycle stations and bicycles

·         Project management skills related to conception, design, testing, and implementation of   processes and physical solutions

·         Ability to train, manage and organize operations staff in an efficient and effective manner  

·         Awareness of how bike sharing fits into the larger public transit system

Computer and Electronic Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

Job knowledge and skills include, but are not limited to:

·      General understanding and capability of Windows based computer systems

·      General understanding and capability of smart-phones and Google Hangouts

·      Ability to follow electronic troubleshooting protocols safely and effectively

Physical Requirements:

·      Must have a valid driver’s license

·      Must have a driving record with less than 3 moving violations in a year and/or chargeable accidents

·      Must be able to repeatedly lift bikes weighing 50 lbs. from the floor to a height of no less than 34” using proper lifting technique

·      Must be able to stand for extended periods of time

·      Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather

·      Must be able to safely ride a bicycle in an urban environment when pulling a utility trailer
